How commodities may reduce risk and create opportunity for returns

Stuart T. Valentine

Stuart brings to the firm a lively, optimistic outlook and a creative, aggressive style of trading. He began his life in the business world as a fourteen year old apprentice to a master chef. Seven years later this experience culminated in the launching of Chez Chez, still lively in the Seattle gourmet circuit. After a year at the University of Madrid, he graduated from Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA with a degree in Energy Policy Studies. With this foundation in energy markets, he moved to Fairfield in 1984 to complete his MBA at MIU and has been brokering commodities ever since.

Stuart's trading philosophy  leans toward  hard money beliefs. For the past 60 years, America has been borrowing against visions of a perpetually  dominant  global economic position.  However, the one constant in life is change and America's dominance is rapidly becoming redefined - and with it a major US Debt reconciliation.  In fact, fundamentals are pointing hard to a major paradigm shift into an extended period of global wealth redistribution during which capital will move from paper assets to hard assets with intrinsic value, just as it did during the Great Depression.

Trading futures is the simple and elegant answer to the challenge of preserving wealth during this period.  He believes that participating in a multi-year, escalating flow of capital into real assets, moving hand-in-hand with a bull futures market, is not only the best way to be protected, but also offers remarkable profit opportunities.

Scale trading, a systematic, medium to long-term investment methodology, is based on the economic law of supply and demand and is the solid foundation upon which he builds his trading strategy. However, let it be known that, while he is vigilant in fitting his trading style to his clients, he is, at heart, a guerilla trader. He pays close attention to short-term political and economic events. He also believes in the pendulum theory of markets, and he tries to take full advantage of the swings using a variety of trading techniques, including options. He also uses options to generate maximum profit from large scale trading inventory positions.

Please remember that commodity trading involves a high degree of leverage. That leverage allows for large returns, but also large losses. Due to the high degree of risk involved in high leverage, you should carefully consider whether commodity trading is appropriate for you.
